Dark Gig - Ghost

Ghost

Last week I was fortunate enough to have the chance to see Swedish heavy metal band Ghost live, in the flesh, at the Norwich UEA LCR. They were very very good.

Synthwave duo Zombi were the support, and I must admit, really not to my taste, even though I tried to be open-minded as they played song after song. I was relieved when they actually finished their set as I found myself growing very bored. Judging from the other people in the crowd, I wasn't the only one. I don't think Zombi were a good choice to support Ghost. While they might share the odd electro sound with Ghost, I think another, heavier band would have been a wiser choice.

Ghost

Ghost themselves were excellent, the Satanic religious aesthetic played to the tee, the smoke, choir music and effigies of Satan backing the stage all mingling with Papa Emeritus and his chrome faced Nameless Ghouls as they belted out song after song. Their playlist seemed a pretty even split between their Grammy Award winning Meliora album and the previous Infestissumam. Personal highlights for me were "From The Pinnacle To The Pit" and the goose-bump raising "He Is". Ghost were everything I had hoped for and I would definitely see them again in future if the chance comes my way.
